Welcome to my portfolio! As the founder of Conscious Electronic, the realm of professional photography was never far out of sight. After all, I came into this line of work with a degree in Film Production from the University of Texas at Austin. But we're talking moving pictures at 32 frames per second. The formal training behind the lens was there, my eye was there, and my passion for the medium was certainly there. So I purchased a Canon full-frame camera, then a couple of "big kid" lenses, and slowly over the years, I developed my love for event photography— and not just a love for shooting artists in the photo pit and behind the stage, but the movers, shakers, lovers, and families in the crowd. This is where the heart of the festival community lies. But over time, and an MA from CSU Long Beach later, my focus became more honed on written content when I leaped into this niche little world of dance music. I loved writing about not just musical releases, but reflecting on the culture too.
As an experienced "EDM" blogger — with over seven years of experience writing for Global Dance, EDM Chicago, Dancing Astronaut, and Riverbeats — I wanted to create an outlet with a more conscious angle. I learned very quickly that running an online music outlet was so much more than writing and a solid brand identity. It means managing and motivating a team, running analytics and monitoring SEO, social media maintenance and e-mail marketing, backend coding and site integration, developing lasting industry relationships, and working with advertisers.
